MY PHOTOGRAPHY STUFF

This is my photography diary, for my interest as much as anyone else's. I'm largely interested in the lab side of things and I am trying to get as self-sufficient on that as possible. But this all costs money, so consider giving me some??

Luther Burbank, Part 1

This was my first attempt at stand development with Rodinal, and the first photos I developed not using a monobath. The results definitely seem a lot grainier and lower quality than they should be even with all the other factors. I also noticed that there is some weird wavy distortion on some of the images -- the negatives are actually like that, so I guess it must not have transported through the camera evenly. Still need better scanning.

The Boiler Room

The old boiler building at Luther Burbank park.

Ruins I

Ruins of an old dairy facility. Luther Burbank park.

Ruins II

Ruins of an old dairy facility. Luther Burbank park. This one has some odd distortion on it.

Ruins III

Ruins of an old dairy facility. Luther Burbank park.

Holga Time

This was the first 120 roll I shot using my brand new Holga. At this point I'm still just scanning as best I can with a light pad and a smartphone on a flimsy stand. I didn't have a carrier or anything to hold the film in place so I think I held it under plexiglass. This tends to cause glare unfortunately. Improving my scans is a high priority.

Selfie / Still

I accidentally overlapped two exposures here because I thought I'd leave it wound halfway since I was having trouble remembering if I'd advanced it or not. It backfired but it looks kinda cool. The left was an opportunity to use the old Vivitar flash I have with the Holga.

The vignetting wasn't as strong on these as I thought it might be. Behold the cone.

Triple exposure indoor portrait.

Molten Discovery

I'm really not sure what happened with this roll. I think maybe I handled it too rough or something? I do know I had the worst time trying to get this roll open for some reason. I don't think the canister was re-used or anything though, or I couldn't get the label off anyway. I have some earlier rolls from my Half-frame Ektar camera, including one that actually turned out ok, but nothing interesting enough for me to make the effort in posting yet. There will be more from this camera in the future.

Beach Cave

Somewhere in discovery park. I saw this cool cave in the cliffside and had to get a picture. It was near low tide and I saw a lot of anemones around.

Honeycomb

Somewhere around Madison Park or wherever. There's all these condo buildings along the lakeshore and some of them jut out onto the water. I thought this architectural feature that looks like honeycomb was kind of interesting but also a bit disturbing. Is there a practical reason for this?

Beaver Lodge Sanctuary

Near the 520 there is this small public pier to the marshy part of the lake, hidden at the end of a residential street. I guess there are beavers here but I didn't see any, just a lone crow.

False Isthmus

More of the beach at the southern tip of Discovery Park.

Radar

The old radar dome at Discovery Park, part of the decomissioned military base. It's in a big open field that feels very surreal and liminal on a sunny day, like some transitional stage of the afterlife.

Hooray for Hollywood

A business in Lake City.

B+W Photo Walk

I believe this was my first self-developed roll. I just used some premixed Df96 monobath from a kit. I believe these scans are from Glazer's.

Crow (Left)

Caw!

Crow (Right)

Caw.

Weeping Tree

This tree branch was trained to grow against the wall using a metal support.

⬜AR

This is really more of a restaurant.

Bon Voyage

A couple shots from a ferry trip to Bainbridge Island. This film is grainy and these shots seem to have a green cast. It's not bad but overall I preferred the Color '92 for a "vintage" looking color film.

WSF

Disembarking the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge island. I believe this is the MV Puyallup Jumbo Mark II class ferry.

Seattle Waterfront

View of the Seattle waterfront from a state ferry.

Mavica Classic

These were taken on a Sony Mavica MVC-FD73 I got. 0.3mp, double speed floppy drive. This camera definitely has a look about it.

Greenlake I

A row of colorful townhomes near Green Lake. The wall below at street level is covered in this very obviously fake ivy which gives it a surreal appearance.

HALL OF JPEG

The kids might call this "liminal".

Little Boat

I don't know if this counts as a canoe or kayak. It's kind of open on top but kind of not.

Kodak Golden Moments

I took this roll of Kodak Gold to a few different places.

The Greenhouse

This greenhouse is on the grounds of the Pacific Bonsai Museum.

Stone Circle

This is the entrance to the old, now empty, Weyerhaeuser HQ down south. The bonsai museum is also on this land.

Pyramid

Evergreen Washelli Cemetery, Seattle

Sakura '92 / Bellevue '92

My second roll. I really like how this Lomography film looked with the spring blossoms.

Cherry Blossoms I

The famous spring cherry blossoms at University of Washington's campus.

Cherry Blossoms II

More cherry blossoms.

On Campus

There are some really pretty old buildings on campus.

Foot Traffic

I was testing out the multiple exposure function on this Canon.

Jumble

This feature at the pickup area of a school near the Bellevue Arboretum caught my eye.

Arches

The arches on this building reminded me of some of the New Formalist flairs of Minoru Yamasaki, as seen on buildings like the IBM building in Seattle.

Baby's First Roll

This roll of film was already in the Canon SLR when I got it, and this was the first roll I shot since I started getting into photography. I had no idea what I was doing but a couple photos turned out with a sort of flat but polished look like the stock photos that come with the picture frame, so I kept those.

Spring (Flowers)

Early spring in the Washington Park Arboretum.

Spring (Ferns)

I like all the ferns in the PNW. It reminds me of Jurassic Park or something.
